As I've become more educated on the ways the sun affects our skin, I've become religious about sunscreen application. Every day, I round out my skincare routine by slathering on an SPF. As someone with melanin-rich and dry skin, my sunscreen needs are very specific. It needs to, of course, deliver sun protection but it also should be moisturizing and seamlessly blend into my skin. I've come across a handful that check off all three boxes. But, I'm always on the hunt for another Black and Brown friendly sunscreen.

Enter: the Neogen Dermalogy Day-light Protection Airy Sunscreen SPF50+. The brand is known for its meticulous and innovative approach to skincare products, so I entered into my product testing period with high expectations. How did their sunscreen work for me? Read my honest review ahead.

About the brand: Neogen is a high-performance Korean skincare brand that formulates products around the core principles of advanced biotechnology.

About My Skin: Perpetually dry

My biggest skincare challenge has always been keeping my perpetually dry skin hydrated. From cleansers to moisturizers, I curate my skincare routine with ultra-hydrating products. The same goes for my sunscreens. Since I'm applying it every day, I want it to envelop my skin with nourishing ingredients and boost moisture. And that's exactly what this Neogen sunscreen claims to do.

The Feel: Airy and non-greasy

Some sunscreens don't have the most appealing texture. They can feel sticky, greasy, or sometimes chalky. But, this sunscreen offers a pleasant sensorial experience. It's light, airy, and creamy, leaving behind not a bit of greasiness on my skin. It truly feels like you're wearing nothing on your skin. And while rubbing it in, I noticed a floral-y sweet scent. However, it's subtle enough to not be off-putting.

Ingredient Quality / Concentration: A potent formula

This is a sunscreen, yes. But, its ingredients offer a host of other skincare benefits. In addition to intense sun protection, this sunscreen also moisturizes, soothes, and controls sebum. Moisturizing ingredients include: damask rose, aloe vera, raspberry, avocado fruit, baobab, purslane, yarrow, arnica montana, mud mushroom, and coptis chinensis root extract. When it came to reducing greasiness and enhancing skin softness, Neogen tapped ingredients like evening primrose, pueraria lobata root extract, and more.

The Results: Moisturizing and no white cast

Before I applied this sunscreen for the first time, I stood in the mirror and silently prayed that it would not leave me looking ghostly. To my delight, it rubbed right into my skin and was undetectable. There was absolutely no ashiness or white cast in sight. So, that was enough of a win for me. But, of course, I had to see if the moisturizing and sebum control claims were also true. In terms of the former, my dry skin felt incredibly soft and thoroughly quenched after application. It even had a healthy glow to it post-application. While the skin on my face is mainly dry, the area around my nose tends to get oily and I noticed it feeling a bit less greasy after applying this sunscreen.

The Value: Worth the price

This isn't your average sunscreen—from the formula to the performance. Hence, the $26 price tag. While I love the product, I do wish the brand provided more than 1.65 ounces. If you're applying and reapplying sunscreen daily, you may run out fairly quickly. But aside from that, I can confidently say people of all skin tones won't regret purchasing this product.
