Fragrance really is the foundation of this luxury vegan deodorant. Corpus offers five very different, very natural options, each boasting its own infectious, unique scent. Of the five, it’s hard to choose, but if we have to, we’ll go with the rich, layered rose aroma. All its offerings are aluminum- and paraben-free and lack talc and baking soda, which might irritate sensitive skin.

Sometimes, those with sensitive skin (or just sensitive noses) prefer no fragrance. None. High-caliber ingredients found in this unscented cruelty-free gem make it one of the best unscented deodorants you can choose. This is key for the most sensitive skin since many fragrances are made up of essential oils that can irritate, even with the best intentions. Natural kaolin clay (think oil-absorbing face masks) promises to absorb that sticky sweat while hops and saccharomyces ferment are meant to neutralize odor.

This deodorant from Kosas’ KosaSport collection caught us off guard. With skincare brands throwing AHAs into just about everything these days, we were sure this was going to be just another deodorant. We were wrong. Okay, sure, it’s not saving the world, but it is saving our armpits. That’s all to say that the AHAs in this new cooling serum deodorant (yes, the texture is amazing) not only fight B.O. but also skin issues, such as darkness and ingrown hairs. You don’t need to be a guy who trims his armpit hair to benefit from this formula though. It’s a great addition to any guy who has skincare on his mind.

What to Look For in a Deodorant
Antiperspirant vs. Deodorant
Fun fact: While the term "deodorant" is generally used as a blanket term for underarm products, according to New York City–based dermatologist Michele Green, true deodorants don't contain aluminum nor do they prevent sweating. On the other hand, antiperspirants do prevent sweating and contain the ingredient. Deodorants are designed to prevent odor, so while you'll still break a sweat when using them, you won't smell. Determine whether you'd like to block odor, sweating, or a combination of both, then pick your formula accordingly.
Scented vs. Unscented
While the scent doesn't impact the overall performance of a deodorant or antiperspirant, some may prefer an unscented version while others may prefer a scented option that pairs well with their fragrance of choice.
Stain-Free Ingredients
Whether you opt for a natural deodorant or an aluminum-based antiperspirant, keep in mind that certain ingredients may stain your clothes. Aluminum has gotten a rap for giving once-pristine white shirts a yellow tint, as has coconut oil. Though household remedies may help to remove the stains, steer clear of these ingredients if scrubbing your T-shirts with an old toothbrush and baking soda doesn't sound like your idea of fun.
According to our Diversity Pledge, 15 percent of products in our newly published market roundups will feature Black-owned and/or Black-founded brands. At the time of publishing, we were not able to find enough deodorants for men from Black-owned and/or Black-founded businesses to meet this percentage. If you know of one we should consider, please email us at contact@byrdie.com and we will evaluate the product ASAP.
